St. John the Baptist, the greatest of the prophets, ends the history of the Old Testament and begins the epoch of the New Testament.
"He was sent to bear witness of the Light", and baptised the Son of God in the Jordan waters.
He had a vision of the Holy Trinity. St. John's mother Elizabeth was a cousin of the Mother of God.
Being full of the Holy Ghost, abiding in the wilderness he never faltered in the boldness of his preaching nor in the strictness of his self-denial.
